Can Thanksgiving 1 year be gifted to already created account?

So i have created 1Password about 14 days ago and i have told my friend about it and he did created account too. Since i am happy with 1Password i bought 1 year and now i can gift 1 year of free family subscription. I would like to give it to my friend and since he already have everything stored in 1Password he would like to just upgrade his current account but the link in email always makes him to create new account. Is it possible to link my gift to his account?
