Why are there two matching entries for most items, one is Personal and one is Primary?

Why are there two matching entries for most items, one is Personal and one is Primary? And why do a few entries not have a duplicate? And why must I change/update both matching entries rather than the software updating both at the same time?

  • Hi @AndyMcKim

I'm sorry for the trouble. The "Primary" vault should have been deleted. Since it wasn't, it should be deleted now. Before doing so first please make sure you know the Master Password for your 1Password.com account by logging in at https://my.1password.com/signin?a=new. Once confirmed please use the vault switcher at the top left of 1Password to switch to the Personal vault and then use Help > Tools > Migrate Standalone Vaults to Account. This should clean things up.

I hope that helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

    Ben

    two things
1/ Does it matter that Primary is also listed under iCloud? Will I no longer be backing up to iCloud?

2/ Will I lose any info that is in Primary but not Personal and how do I mitigate for that?

    thanks
    Andy

    1. The Primary listed under iCloud would indicate, you are using iCloud to sync the data. No, you will be using your 1Password account to sync all of your data as well as backups.

    2. If the data has not been moved over to the account, then yes, the data would be unavailable. If you completed a migration to the account, all of the items are there. You would need to verify this by comparing the data. From the looks of your screenshot, you see duplicates. That's because the all vaults view shows data from all of the vaults on your Mac.

Compare the data in the Personal and the Primary vaults, if all of the data is present, you can remove the Primary vault.

Please ensure you are able to login to https://my.1password.com if you have not done so already. I would strongly recommend printing a copy of your Emergency Kit. https://support.1password.com/emergency-kit/ when you verify the login. Make sure to save it securely. You may need it in the future.
