Find in text fields stopped working after upgrade to 7.7

I often keep things in notes, do a search and then a find in the text field to get to the item I am searching for. This has stopped working after the upgrade to version 7.7 that I did this morning. The Find window doesn't show up anymore and so I can't do a text search. This is a real problem for me as some of those text fields are long, making a manual search almost impossible and at the very least unnecessarily time-consuming.

I can see there are still 2 searches in the Edit menu but the window for the find in a text field doesn't show up anymore.

This is on a MacPro5,1 running Mojave
