Firefox browser extension empty
The 1Password browser menu on Firefox shows "no items in vault". It seems the Primary vault that I use locally is not available to Firefox now. The cloud vault is visible, but I don't use that one and it is empty. The desktop app and the extension in Safari work fine and access the Primary vault with no issue. I have tried reinstalling the extension, restarting the app, the computer etc. Firefox version 89.0.2 and extension version 2.0.2 are installed on MBP 2017 running Mac OS 11.3.1

Ah I see - I needed the "classic" extension. It works now.

While this version of 1Password is still supported, it is no longer receiving development updates.

Correct, it does not. Standalone vaults will also not be part of the next major release of 1Password. You can read dave's statement on that in his recent post: https://1password.community/discussion/comment/601917/#Comment_601917
