(regression) 1PW8 loses the ability to scan QR codes onscreen for one-time passwords

1Password 7 included an option when adding a one-time password to scan a QR code onscreen by positioning a little transparent viewfinder window over the QR code, after which 1Password would automatically ingest the one-time password code. In 1Password 8, this is gone. Is it coming back? I really liked this feature.

  • Hello @controversial! 👋

The QR Code scanner isn't in the Early Access version of 1Password 8 yet and hopefully it'll be added soon. In the meantime here's a workaround that will help. :)

It certainly would be great to have.

We have an alternative option that you might like. When you have a web page with the QR code, open the Safari popover and click on the QR Code button in the item detail view, The TOTP code will be automatically scanned and added to this item.

There are a few advantages compared to viewfinder. There is no need to move it around to position it above the code. Also, using the viewfinder forced 1Password to request additional security permissions from macOS to be able to read the screen.
