How to switch from mac app to families

Hello, I have been using the 1Password App for many years and wanted to switch to Families. I started by signing up for the Families account trial. I was asked to create an account. I already have a 1Password account. Can I use that account or do I need to create a new one? If so do I maintain 2 accounts?
Is the process to switch documented somewhere? If I don't want to stay with the Families version and want to go back to the standalone app, can I do that?

I am currently using version 6.8.9 purchased from the Mac App Store. I have it installed on iMac, Macbook Pro, iPhone SE, iPad. I use DropBox to sync.
