1Password app keeps opening randomly

Since a few weeks, the 1Password app keeps opening at seemingly random moments. It doesn’t open a window, but it does show up in my dock and app switcher. It seems to happen even if I never use 1Password.

Initially I thought this was related to the new extension for Safari, so I switched to Edge for a while, but it keeps happening. I have a feeling it’s related to the switch to macOS Monterey.

What can I do to troubleshoot and prevent this?

1Password Version: 7.9.1

  • Hi @erikheemskerk

Apologies for the oddity. Do you have 1Password > Preferences > Browsers > Always keep 1Password Extension Helper running enabled? If not, could you please try enabling it and seeing if that helps?

    Thanks!

    Hi Ben,

No worries. The option you're describing was already enabled.

In the macOS Console I can see the following events happening, which seem related:

This just happened to in while using Safari, I had to stop using Safari and it 1Password for Safari extension. I quickly had to move over to Firefox instead. Is there a Safari Browser fix coming soon?

    @bocciaman

It's not clear to me whether you're experiencing the same issues as other posters in this thread because the symptoms sound a little different. Are you using both 1Password 7 for Mac and the new 1Password for Safari web extension? Can you tell me a little more about what you're seeing when you use Safari?

Hello all! Has there been any kind of resolution on this? I've seen this issue happen previously, and now it's started happening again with the current version (7.9.3) on macOS Monterey 12.3. Thankfully, it's unobtrusive and just kind of annoying, more than anything.

  • Hi @kleenkreativ

In all cases so far either a restart of the Mac has resolved the issue, or we have not heard back from the customer.

I see, thanks, Ben! Good to know. I'll try that and see if it clears up. It hasn't launched for a good half hour now but was doing it repeatedly earlier.

  • Fair enough. Please let us know if a restart does not resolve it. 👍️

So far, so good...it's been at least half an hour now after restarting and it has not launched (except for initially, to startup the menu bar extension). Thanks for the tip!

  • You're very welcome. 😊 If we can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.
