SSH agent not available when 1Password (GUI) not started/unlocked?

After booting up my Mac today I tried to ssh into a Raspberry Pi, before starting/unlocking the 1Password GUI.

This is what happened:

➜ ssh pi
Load key "/Users/me/.ssh/pi-1password.pub": invalid format
pi@pi: Permission denied (publickey).

It worked fine after unlocking the 1Password GUI and trying the same command again.

I hope you can make it more like CLI v2 (unlocked 1Password GUI not needed).

1Password Version: 80600028 Nightly
Extension Version: n/a
OS Version: macOS Big Sur 11.6.4

If possible it should start the application like the browser extension does.

I get hit by this almost every morning...

  • In Preferences > General, you can configure 1Password to automatically launch on reboot:

Will that only load it in the background?

Or start the GUI and prompt me to log in?

I noticed that the CLI 2.0 beta does not require the 1Password GUI to be opened first (it also uses biometric unlock to keep things secure). I hope you can do the same with the SSH agent!

In fact, this morning I unlocked the CLI instead of the GUI and then I could use the SSH agent as well...
