Unable to add common separators to phone numbers

When I add a phone number field to an entry I'm unable to add the normal separators to the phone number because the keyboard doesn't give the options to. The keyboard that comes up only gives the options for a number pad or a letter keyboard, it doesn't have options for special characters such as a dash or parentheses.
