Search feature of these forums is broken

There doesn't seem to be a "meta" (ie forum-related) section to these forums, so I'm posting this issue here.

As far as I can tell, the search feature of these forums is partially broken. If I type any search into the field at the top of a forum category (eg, https://1password.community/categories/desktop-betas), then the search page that opens up invariably tells me that no results were found. For example, if I search for "vaults" and hit return, I get taken to this URL:

https://1password.community/search?Search=vaults&cat=76&adv=1&search=

You can see the "vaults" search term in the middle of that URL. But the results page that opens up tells me there are no results. But if I subsequently enter my search into the search field on this results page, then the search works as expected. Notably, it brings me to a different URL:

https://1password.community/search?adv=1&search=vaults&title=&author=&cat=76&subcats=1&tags=&discussion_discussion=1&comment_comment=1&within=1+day&date=

Why does using the search bar on the forum category page never work, but using the search bar on the failed search page works? Maybe you could make both search bars work properly? I'm using Safari and have turned off my content blockers to make sure they are not contributing to the problem.

I try to be a good community member and search for a topic before posting, but always having to search twice (as described above) creates too much friction. So I just don't search anymore.

  • Hey @dgbeecher:

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Support Community. While I can't speak specifically to why search behaves differently on those pages, it's something we're aware of.

As for where to put "meta" discussion, the Lounge would be the best place, so I've moved your thread there. 😀
