I've asked Ubuntu to update my installation of 1password and it claims it has, but I continually get this error on launch: "This application has passed its expiration date. Please get the newer version. The browser plugins continue to work but I can't launch the GUI app at all.

What's going on here?

(base) me@machine:~$sudo apt update && sudo apt install 1password

...

1password is already the newest version (8.1.0-6.BETA).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 19 not upgraded.

  • Hello @arfenarf, thank you for letting us know about this - and I'm sorry to learn of the issue!

I believe this is related to a change we made to our GPG key a little while back. If you follow the installation steps here, that should fix the issue (as well as get you an updated copy of 1Password for Linux). But if you try this and the issue persists, feel free to let me know and I'll be happy to dig deeper. We'll make sure this gets sorted out! 😃

    INSTANT FIX!!!1!

Thank you so much, that was totally the problem. That'll teach me to try to take shortcuts.

  • Happy to help, @arfenarf. 😃 Glad to hear that things are now in good working order!

You should be able to use sudo apt update && sudo apt install 1password from here on out, by the way. That was just a one-time issue with the key (necessitating the full install process from the website) that you should now be clear of. And as always, if anything does come up, we're happy to assist. 🙏
