Upgrading to 1Password8 from 4 in 'agile keychain' format

I'm currently using still using 1password 4, with the old agile keychain file format (on dropbox), and I'd like to upgrade to 1password 8 using a subscription.

I understand I would have to install 1password 7 first to import my old data, but do I have to convert my existing installation to the 'Opvault' format first, or will it import from the old agile keychain storage on dropbox?

As an alternative, could I install 1Password 8 (without uninstalling 1Password4), then cut/paste my individual passwords from 1password 4, to 1password 8, before finally uninstalling ipassword4? Will both versions work on the same system without interfering?

many thanks!

  • Hi @Paulguk, thanks for this question. πŸ‘‹ I'm happy to assist!

You're correct about needing to first make the step from 1Password 4 to 1Password 7. And there's no need to cut / paste individual passwords - we have a workflow that should work for your needs. πŸ‘

First, download 1Password 7 for Windows here and run the installer.

Once that's installed, you can use these instructions to convert from .agilekeychain. Opening your agilekeychain file in 1Password 7 will convert it automatically to the .opvault format.

When you've reached that point, you can then use our most recent migration guide to move your data into 1Password 8.

I'd like you to know as well that if you'd like help with any part of this process, or encounter any issues along the way, we do have a team of specialists who will be happy to ensure that everything goes through smoothly. You can connect with that team by emailing us at support@1Password.com, with a brief message and a link to this discussion, and we'll make sure that it finds its way to the right people.

Thanks, and we look forward to welcoming you to 1Password 8! πŸ˜ƒ
