autofill not working for capital one app

Just recently joined 1Password. I have a Samsung Note 10+ and am having issues with 1Password not filling in information for apps. Like specifically the Capital One app which I use a lot. I came over from LastPass which worked great so I am pretty frustrated that it is not working in 1Password. There are other financial apps it won't work for either and I don't really want to list a bunch of my financial information on a public forum. I have found a few apps it works for but it seems like most of the ones I've tried don't--even bigger ones like Walmart. So I wanted to see if there was something I can do to try and fix this or if this is just how 1Password (not functional for a lot of apps) and maybe I should look at a different password manager or just stick with LastPass which works well with most of my apps.

Wanted to add that I have autofill on. I also tried the fix I saw elsewhere to turn it off, restart phone, then turn it back on.

Autofill in the Cap One app on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 is working for me. But I did add the login details manually first and then I had to "associate" the app with the saved login, because all I did when I manually created the login was input the web URL for Cap One. I'm not sure if that would make a difference or not though because the autofill option popped up in my Cap One app regardless. When you go to your Capital One entry in 1pass is the Capital One app listed under "Linked apps"? (Sorry can't take a screenshot it won't allow me to)

I will test this on my Galaxy S22 Ultra as well and report back. I will also test the Walmart app.

So here are the results of my testing:

Walmart app does not work with Autofill, even when I try to force it (mentioned below). A message pops up saying "This input cannot be autofilled". Maybe 1pass support can look into this.

Cap One app works on my S22 Ultra. However, Autofill sometimes didn't pop up automatically; I had to force it. The way you do this is to hold your finger on the input box until the Copy/Paste menu pops up, then tap the three-dot icon, then tap Autofill. Then 1pass popped up to autofill my information. Let me know if this works for you!

Another addendum: Sometimes I also have to turn off "Remember me" on the Cap One login screen to get 1pass autofill to pop up.

I have to say as a former LastPass user also, my experience so far is that 1pass does not do Autofill as well as LastPass did.

  • Hi @thelawgoddess, @casino100, thanks for writing in. I'm sorry 1Password hasn't been filling as expected for you! I'd be happy to help with that.

For Capital One and your other financial apps I'd like to ask you to try setting Autofill prompts below fields and "forcing" Autofill as casino100 suggested. To set Autofill prompts below fields:
    1. Open and unlock 1Password for Android.
    2. Tap the account or collection icon.
    3. Tap Settings > Autofill.
    4. Tap Display Autofill prompts > Below the fields they relate to.

To "force" Autofill you can long press a field then tap Autofill or ⋮ > Autofill in the context menu.

I can, as casino100 mentioned see the "contents can't be Autofilled" toast in the Walmart US app. I've gone ahead and filed this with the team so we can look into it further.

Let us know if that helps!

clicking on the three dots and choosing autofill did nothing, but turning off "remember me" worked! so @casino100 - thank you very much for that hint! :-) i tried this with another financial account that had a remember-username feature and it also worked. yea! @ag_timothy - thank you for also looking into the walmart app!

  • Thanks for the update @thelawgoddess! I'm glad to hear that worked for you. Setting Autofill prompts below fields should also help if you notice an issue filling from a password or secondary field again in the future. Thanks again!
