Can't install on Chrome

Chrome won't let me install the extention. It says I need to download it from the store.

Why? And why can't AgileBits provide any information about it?

    Welcome to the forums, André!

The 1Password extension will eventually be in the Chrome Web Store, but for now you can install it just like any other non-CWS extension. As shown on the download page, simply drag the CRX file onto Chrome's extension list. This is the same for any non-CWS extension, so it may be a helpful thing to know.

Again, just follow the instructions on the download page. There are even screenshots to show you what to click and how to drag the file onto the list:

I hope that between the instructions on the download page and my post here we can get some credit for providing information about it. :)

Let me know know if there is anything else I can help with. Cheers!

I'm having similar problem. For some reason, Chrome does not accept the extension when attempting to drag and drop onto chrome's extension list. Nothing happens.
Is there a solution to this? I'm on a macbook pro, 10.6.8

Please try creating a new Chrome profile and let me know if you have the same problem with a brand new profile:

Thank you for the prompt response.
I resolved the issue. It seems there's a new way of adding extensions, from the far-right menu tab > tools > extensions.

That's correct. That is exactly what is described and depicted step by step (with screenshots) on the download page:

    https://agilebits.com/extensions/mac/chrome.html

I'm wondering what else you could have possibly meant when you wrote, "Chrome does not accept the extension when attempting to drag and drop onto chrome's extension list." Isn't that what you were doing before? What changed?

I'm glad things are working well, but you have me very confused. :)

I'm having the same problem. I've tried the extensions section and click and dragging the extension. Also tried the beta version to no avail.

Note I'm seeing the following error which is slightly different than your download page.

Apps, extensions, and user scripts cannot be added from this website. Learn more.

  • Figured out how to install this plugin for anyone who comes across this same problem.
You need to run chrome with the following option --enable-easy-off-store-extension-install appended to allow it to add extensions which are not from the chrome app store.

    /Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google\ Chrome --enable-easy-off-store-extension-install

Welcome to the forums, scottious! Since this thread was started Chrome 24 was released which changes the non-Chrome Web Store extension installation process ever so slightly. The same warning still appears across the top of the page when downloading 1Password.crx (that is not new), but there is no need to use any command line switches. The only thing that changed in Chrome 24 is that you can no longer drag 1Password.crx from the download bar but must drag it from Finder instead. I'm not sure why they made this change. There doesn't seem to be a reason for it. But you can simply follow the steps here:

How To: Install the 1Password extension in Chrome for Mac

Again, there is no need to use any command line switches.

Let me know if you are still having trouble when following the three easy steps in the support article. We're working to update the download page to reflect this change.
