Wut? The application “1Password” can’t be opened.

Getting this message when logging into a user account on my Mac, also when opening the Chrome and Safari extensions. The extensions work perfectly (I can fill and copy my data), just cannot open the application. I can open the application while in another user account, just not this user account. I can correct the problem by installing 1Password again, but I will soon get this message on one or the other user account.

Console indicates 1Password is crashing:
Crashed Thread: 3 Dispatch queue: NSManagedObjectContext 0x7fc2a7f0ef80

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000000
Exception Note: EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY

Thoughts?

Extension Version: 2.5.2
OS Version: 10.15.7 (Catalina)

  • Hi there @mrtoner

There was a permissions issue which was causing this bug in previous versions of 1Password. Now that you've installed version 8.9.13, the correct permissions will be retained after the next update, so all user accounts on the Mac will be able to open 1Password as expected. Sorry for the inconvenience this was causing!
