Safari crashing on my iPad when trying to sync ophttp bookmarks

I am using the latest version of the iOS on a new iPad Mini and the latest version of 1Password for that iPad.

I tried following the instructions here,

http://www.macstorie.../1password-4-1/

and here,

http://goo.gl/QFIV7

for how to set up the new 1Password URL scheme.

To make the bookmarks I frequently use with 1Password easier to access on the iPad, I set up some frequently used URLs, beginning with op , e.g., ophttp://www.instapaper.com/, in Safari on my iMac so they would sync with Safari on my iPad.

I put them in the Bookmark Menu, not Bookmark Bar, because I never use the Bookmark Menu on Safari.

After I synced my bookmarks to the iPad, Safari on the iPad now crashes upon opening. It opens for an instant, then disappears. I have gone so far as to fully Restore the iPad and the problem persists

When I now go to Settings > iCloud and turn Safari off and choose Turn Off Safari and Delete from My iPad, I get the Turning Off Safari Data, and settings quits. When I go back to Settings, Safari is still shows as turned on.

I feel somehow that this problem is associated in some way with my efforts to implement the 1Password URL scheme and I am at a loss at what to try.

BTW, when I log onto a site by first opening it while I am in 1Password, as soon as I chose the option to open it in Safari, Safari flashes on the screen for an instant and then quits.

Thanks for any suggestions you may be able to offer.

    Hey Bob

I also actually got around to setting mine up last night. Dave told me it was about time :)

Anyway What I did was I also use Mac stories article you linked to.

I have all my bookmarks still as http and https (normal bookmarks)

I used the javascript one at the bottom. I simply dragged it to the bookmark bar in my browser on my Mac. Renamed it fittingly "Send to 1PB"

I then moved the book mark to a special folder in my bookmarks bar for things like that i.e. sent to historious, send to delibar etc.

I allowed the sync to finish to iCloud and back to my iDevices.

Now when I am in safari and I want to open the link in the 1Password Browser I bring up the bookmarks from my iDevice tap the javascript one named "Send to 1PB" It fills in the name and off I go

I think the issue you are seeing may be the fact you renamed the bookmarks to ophttp://www.example.com some how iCloud or the iDevice is having an issue with it.

I like the javascript one as I don't rename anything etc.

    I hope I haven't confused you more. ?

    Many thanks for the reply.

I deleted all the bookmarks I set up that began with "op", and followed your instructions by dragging the javascript to the Bookmarks Menu Bar and naming it "1P", to save room, then waited for a sync.

On my iPhone, it works fine...I think.

Do I have the sequence correct?
On the phone, go to my bookmark folder and thus to my bookmark for, for example, macupdate.com
    Click on that bookmark.
Navigate back through my bookmarks to the 1P bookmark and click on that.
    1Password opens
    Input my Master PWD
Click on the key symbol at the bottom of the page that opens.
    Click on Log in Using.
Click on submit and the page opens.

    Do I have it right?

It sounds like you got it. :)

Just one bookmark with this URL will open in 1Password whatever page you are currently viewing in Safari:

    javascript:window.location='op'+(window.location.href);

khad, I've been using the bookmark above successfully for some time on my iPad with the App Store version of 1P, but on my iPhone with the beta version Safari complains "Safari cannot open the page because the address is invalid." The bookmark is synced through iCloud, so it's the same on both devices. Any suggestions?

mrtoner, from what I remember the beta version is using a different url scheme.

    In 1Password iOS its "op"
In 1Password iOS BETA its "opb"

In short you would need 2 special bookmarklets one for standard and one for beta

Release notes on Jan 7th, 2013 build 4.1b18

*Since this is not really valid unless you have access to the beta I saw no reason it could not be posted here.

  • Hi @mrtoner,

Tommy is correct, for the beta version of 1Password app on the iOS device, it has to use the opb, not the regular op.
