Lost password and corrupt Emergency kit

Sure hope someone can help. My remembered password isn’t working and when I tried to pull up my emergency kit, it’s corrupt. Is there a way to generate a new password or get it reset. From what I’ve been reading it says I have to delete my account and start over!? Please tell me this isn’t true.
