Time elapsed vault access

Currently administer a family account that would allow access to a private vault / allow resetting credentials if a configured period of time elapses. I understand a vault could be set up to be shared, but by default want to respect privacy of other members. The use case here could be seen as being able to manage an account for aging parents, scenarios where someone may be injured or hospitalized etc.

What is 1password's recommended approach to such access, short of making it shared or having an individual only use vaults that aren't private?

  • Hi @JohnCHome,

With a 1Password family account, each family member starts with two vaults:

    • Everyone in your family has their own Private vault. You can’t see what’s in theirs, and they can’t see what’s in yours. Store things like your email login and social media passwords in your Private vault.

    • 1Password Families includes a Shared vault for items everyone in your family needs. It’s a great place for your Wi-Fi password and Netflix login, for example.

Think of the 1Password Family account as an apartment complex: each member you invite to join your family will live in their own apartment (have their own account, Secret Key, and account password), but still live in the same apartment complex (be a part of the same family account).

The family organizer is able to recover a family members access to their account should they loose their account password or Secret Key but is not able to view or access items within their Private vault.
