Win11 SSH Agent: ssh_get_authentication_socket: No such file or directory

I found https://1password.community/discussion/128179/i-cant-get-1pass-ssh-agent-working-at-all-on-windows this post and am running into what appears to be a related issue.

  • It used to work, but sometime in the last few months stopped (I haven't been on a windows machine in a while so I'm not quite sure when it broke)
  • Powershell 7.3.6
  • Nothing appears in %applocaldata%/1Password/logs. Just INFO 2023-08-21T10:21:52.070 ThreadId(14) [client:typescript] 1Password is already running, closing.
  • gci | sort name shows that neither SSH_AUTH_SOCK nor IdentityAgent are set
  • ssh-add -l shows the expected list of keys
  • Replicated on both latest beta and latest prod build

  • We are indeed using Win11's builtin OpenSSH: (base) PS C:\Users\smicr> (gcm ssh.exe).Path C:\WINDOWS\System32\OpenSSH\ssh.exe

  • Using the beta build and adding the ssh-diagnostics directory produces no logs
