Hello friends,
Spring is here and new 1Password developer features and resources are springing up faster than the flowers outside!
First, an update on our SDKs: a new Python SDK has joined our Go and Javascript SDKs in private beta. We’re planning to open up access to more users ahead of the official public beta announcement in May. If you’d like to try out any of the new SDKs, you can sign up for access to the private beta here.
Ok, let’s dive into the rest of the news!
What’s new
Export SSH keys in different formats
You can now export SSH private keys in OpenSSH or PKCS#8 formats with 1Password. Choose the SSH key you want to export, then select the private key field and the export format.
Public preview: Use 1Password with Pulumi ESC
Pulumi ESC (Environments, Secrets, and Configuration) now includes support for 1Password as a secrets store. The new integration lets you reference secrets stored inside 1Password directly in your environments, applications, and infrastructure. That means no more need to copy and paste secrets, no need to save secrets in plain text files, and easier integration between the secrets stored in 1Password and the configuration of your systems.
Learn more and see the integration in action by registering for the live workshop with Pulumi and 1Password on April 23rd at 12pm EDT.
New service account commands available in the CLI
We’ve added two new commands to version 2.26 of the 1Password CLI:
- op service-account create
- op service-account ratelimit
With these commands you can now create a service account via the CLI as well as check rate limit usage for an individual service account or the entire account. Update to the latest version of the CLI to get started.

Connect with the 1Password team at POST/CON 24
The 1Password team will be heading to sunny San Francisco for POST/CON 24, April 30 through May 1!
We’re joining Postman for their annual API conference and look forward to connecting with you all in person. Plus we’ll be sharing some exciting news, so swing by the booth, pick up some swag, and say hello. We hope to see you there!
PS: Use code PC241PASSWORD to get 20% off conference tickets. There’s a cap of 50 redemptions on that code, so act fast!
New version of the community-built 1Password.NET CLI wrapper
Thanks to jscarle for sharing an update on the release of version 2.4.1 of the 1Password.NET CLI wrapper! For any of you .NET developers out there, this version adds support for moving and sharing items. Check it out on GitHub or NuGet.
PS: Don’t forget to join the 1Password Developer Community Slack! It’s a great space to share updates if you build a project or write a guide about using 1Password.
Tips and insights
GitHub enables push protection by default
In case you missed it, GitHub has enabled push protection by default for public repositories. Why? In just the first eight weeks of 2024, GitHub detected over 1 million leaked secrets on public repositories. That’s more than a dozen accidental leaks every minute.
With this update, when a supported secret is detected in any push to a public repository, you will have the option to remove the secret from your commits. That’s a huge win for code security! And of course, we think you should save that secret in 1Password and use our GitHub Actions integration instead ;-)
HomeLab: Using 1Password CLI to handle secrets in Kubernetes
Not all of us choose to run Kubernetes in our home labs…but if you do, you should absolutely use 1Password. This short guide by lawrencegripper shows just how easy handling secrets in Kubernetes can be with 1Password. Check it out and give it a try!
