Welcome to the 1Password Community! Our goal is to create a friendly, helpful, and engaging community for all things related to 1Password, digital security and cybersecurity. To keep our community an inclusive space for everyone, you must adhere to the following guidelines:
Be respectful and kind
Respectful communication is the foundation of this community. Whether you're interacting with other users, or 1Password team members, always be kind. Disagreements are natural, but it’s essential to keep discussions civil and focused on the topic at hand.
We want our community to be a place of helpful and meaningful discussions. Keep your posts constructive, and avoid content that seeks to provoke negative emotions like anger, sadness, or fear.
Prohibited behaviors include:
- Unkind or hurtful language directed at others, such as name-calling or bullying.
- Intimidation, overly aggressive responses, or harassment,
- Trolling or intentionally provoking negative reactions.
- Posts designed to stir anger, sadness, or fear rather than constructive dialogue.
- Posting sexually explicit material, or illegal content.
If you witness any disrespectful behavior, please report it to our moderation team.
Zero tolerance for hate speech
Hate speech of any kind will result in an immediate and permanent ban. This includes any language that discriminates, insults, or demeans based on race, place of or ethnic origin, ancestry, disability, religion/creed, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or other protected characteristics of our community members.
Learn more about what constitutes hate speech here.
Respect privacy
Protecting personal information is crucial. Please avoid posting your own personal details, or the personal details of others, such as email addresses, phone numbers, order numbers, or any other sensitive information. If you need assistance that requires sharing such information, contact our support team at support@1password.com.
Remember: Never post your account password or Secret Key on this forum, even when seeking help. We will never ask you for this information in a public forum.
Be constructive, not destructive
We value all feedback, including criticism, as long as it’s actionable and focused on improvement. Instead of just saying “This feature is terrible,” try suggesting how it can be improved, like “I think this feature could be better with XYZ.”
This helps us make meaningful changes and creates a space where your input drives positive growth for the whole community.
Keep it relevant and on-topic
Our community is focused on 1Password, digital security, and cybersecurity topics. Off-topic discussions can dilute the quality of the conversations, so please keep your posts relevant to 1Password or its use.
Before posting, use the search function, or forum tags to check if your question has already been answered. Duplicate posts or those without substance may be removed.
No spam or excessive self promotion
Spam, unsolicited promotions, and excessive self-promotion are not allowed. While we encourage sharing helpful resources, please avoid flooding the community with links to your own content or services.
Self-promotion can be valuable when it’s relevant and builds trust with the community. For example, if you’ve created something that genuinely helps with the discussion, feel free to share—but no more than once every 7 days. Avoid posts purely designed to direct users to your store or service. If someone asks where to buy a product you’ve mentioned, you can answer, but don’t include unsolicited links to your shop, Kickstarter, or Patreon.
If you’re unsure whether something crosses the line, reach out to our moderators for clarification.
Post and Comment Rules
Quality over quantity
We value quality discussions over volume. Posts should add value to the conversation and be respectful of other members' time. Avoid clickbait, misleading titles, or low-effort content. Search the Community to see if your question or topic has already been discussed, joining that thread instead of creating a new one results in higher quality discussions and focused solutions.
Don’t cross-post issues
To keep our support process streamlined, please avoid posting the same issue across multiple forum topics or social platforms (e.g., the forum, Reddit, Mastodon). This leads to duplication of effort and delays for everyone. Instead, try to keep your discussion in one place to ensure a faster, more coordinated response.
Old threads
To avoid confusion caused by outdated information, we may lock or archive older threads. If you have a similar issue, consider starting a new thread or referencing the older one for context.
Moderation and Enforcement
Reporting issues
If you see any content or behavior that violates these guidelines, please use the report function to notify the moderation team. We rely on your help to keep the community safe and respectful.
Moderation process
Moderators ensure that discussions stay respectful and constructive. We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these guidelines or disrupts the community.
Actions taken by moderators may include:
- Removing posts or comments.
- Issuing warnings for guideline violations.
- Temporary or permanent bans for repeat or severe violations.
Appealing a decision
If you believe a moderation action was taken in error, you can appeal by contacting the moderation team via email at support+community@1password.com with the subject line “1Password Community Moderation Appeal”.
Please provide a respectful explanation of your case, and we’ll review it accordingly.
