May Developer Roundup: SDKs public beta, Postman integration, and more

Hello friends,

Today’s newsletter is a particularly satisfying one for the team: Starting today, 1Password SDKs for Python, Javascript, and Go are available (in beta).

We’ve also got a new integration, tips on optimizing your Git setup, and our recent workshop with Pulumi.

Let’s get into it.

What’s new

Introducing 1Password SDKs public beta
Now you can integrate directly with 1Password using software development kits (SDKs) for Python, Javascript, and Go. The SDKs are available as open-source libraries in public beta starting today.

You can use the SDKs to create, read, edit, and delete items. We’ll be improving the SDKs and adding new functionality over the coming months, and we’ll keep you updated through this newsletter and over on our 1Password Developer Community Slack. Drop by and let us know how the SDKs are working for you.

Read the full announcement on the 1Password blog, or dive right in and explore the documentation.

Announcing 1Password and Postman integration
In May we joined the Postman Team for POST/CON 2024 and dropped an exciting announcement: You can now access API tokens and other secrets stored in 1Password directly in your Postman workspaces and collections.

The integration is available in Postman Enterprise plans with the Advanced Security Administration add-on and can be accessed in the Postman Canary release. It will be available in the stable build in the coming weeks.

Sidenote: Postman built this new integration as a partner in the private beta for 1Password SDKs. So if you’re looking for inspiration, look no further.

CLI Version 1 deprecation
As we welcome new improvements, sometimes we need to say farewell to older versions. We will be deprecating version 1 of 1Password CLI, effective October 1, 2024. After that, any scripts or integrations still using version 1 will stop working as expected. We released version 2 of the CLI in March 2022, and it provides a number of schema improvements to improve the tool's usability, as well as additional features to help you provision secrets.

Run op --version to check if you’re using version 2. If you’re still on version 1, please upgrade to CLI version 2 using the guidelines provided in our developer documentation.

Managing team secrets with 1Password & Pulumi ESC
In case you missed the live session, you can watch the recording of our recent workshop with Pulumi. We covered how Pulumi ESC works with 1Password to ensure secrets are securely made available to approved team members and deployments.

That’s it for the news. Have a great week, forward this to a friend who might enjoy it, and we’ll see you again soon!
