    Hi @ttim03,

The initial motivation was to add support for the likes of ChromeOS and Linux, platforms where we don't have a native client. The hope is 1Password X will eventually become the one extension we need to support but we're not quite there yet.

1Password X also only works with 1Password accounts whilst 1Password 7 for Mac and Windows both support licences with standalone vaults.

Those are the core differences but as time goes on things tend to get a bit more blurry. We may have been initially thinking about ChromeOS and Linux when first building 1Password X but plenty of people use it on macOS and Windows as well. It could be newer users find it much easier to install the extension and have things start to work than to first download the client and then install a separate extension.

Does that help at all? If it has generated a number of follow-up questions please let me know

Will 1password X ever be able to get touchID support?

Good question @JesseKing3! Adding touchID support to 1Password X is something we've been talking about, although I don't have any details to share other than that. Stay tuned. :)
