Why does the latest version need access to download history?
I just updated to the latest 1Password X extension on a Ubuntu virtual machine I haven't used in a few months, and noticed that 1Password X was asking for new permissions to install the latest update.
One of the new permissions is "Download files and read and modify the browser’s download history".
Why does 1Password X need this?

I think this permission is to download the Emergency Kit.

Hi @fritzophrenic. blaxxz is correct, the Manage your downloads permission, if that is the one you are enquiring about, relates primarily to the download of the Emergency Kit PDF. We mention it in the 1Password X 1.11 changelog and one the 1Password X developers talks a little about it in another thread, Latest version on Linux wants even more permissions.
I hope that helps, let us know if you have any follow-up questions.

Thanks, that does help! I probably read that already back in October on my primary Ubuntu machine and forgot all about it until now.
