opera browser, imac, high sierra...browser icon error unable to validate but....

I followed the instructions and clicked on the opera browser extension on your downloads page. It does not give me the error you show, it just downloads a file (.crx). If i click the file, it opens chrome (which I don't use) and tells me Chrome isn't my default browser and asks if I want it to be (NO). There's a warning at the bottom about the dangers of opening extensions - if I choose to proceed, Chrome says the package is invalid, CRX_HEADER_INVALID. Please help me fix this as not being able to fill in is driving me stark raving mad!!!!
Thanks
Linda

    Hi @1pfourlofin!

Are you using this link to download the Opera extension? And are you clicking on it directly inside your Opera browser?

Yes and yes. However, I did get it to work late last night. FYI, I had to drag the crx file icon that was download over to the opera browser and drop it. Then, a restart and it worked.
