Sync with iCloud documents?

Now that Windows finally has a robust iCloud Drive feature with the latest iCloud app directly from the Windows Store, I would like to use 1Password to sync via iCloud as a Documents based app. I know that the documents said CloudKit isn't available on Windows, but I'm talking about saving 1Password vault documents as documents.

Is this possible?

    Hi @komocode!

I'm talking about saving 1Password vault documents as documents.

Can you please elaborate on this a little bit?

From what I understand (I'm also an iOS developer), apps can save documents into the iCloud drive and have them sync across all platforms.

As a user, I want to be able to ditch Dropbox. Right now, from what I've read, 1Password mentions that syncing via iCloud is only available between macOS and iOS. That's true if CloudKit was used, but if 1Password uses iCloud drive, they should be able to get syncing between iOS/macOS/Windows.

As 1Password's data is primarily database driven (rather than being file based) we use CloudKit when syncing via iCloud.

If it currently syncs via Dropbox, it can be synced via iCloud Drive, no?

  • Not currently, no.

Can you give more insight? I have a few iCloud document apps in the wild that have no problems syncing via iCloud drive cross platform. If 1Password is syncing over Dropbox currently, it's technically possible to do this with iCloud Drive

  • We don't currently have any support for iCloud Drive built into 1Password. We are not presently considering the addition of any additional 3rd party sync options. It probably would be technically possible, but it isn't a good fit for 1Password (a database based service), and so we aren't perusing it. Instead we are focusing our efforts on our 1st party offering.

    Ben
