Washington Post - new login form - 1P does not fill account name field

The new Washington Post login does not fill from 1Password (Mac, Chrome and Safari) from CMD-\ or on hitting the browser 1P icon.

You can manually enter (or copy and paste from 1P for that account) the name, the password will then fill on CMD-.

Note that Wapo uses at least 2 different login "styles".
The login page with a photo of the Wash D.C. Tidal Basin with the Jefferson Memorial is the page that has this issue.

  • Hey @AlanTheBeast! I tested this site in a few different browsers and with both 1Password X and the older 1Password desktop app companion extension, and I didn't have any trouble filling on this site. Could you let me know which version of 1Password you're using, which browser extension, and which platform you're on?

    Hmm - I thought I had replied to ag_m.

It has to be specifically the page with the Tidal Basin and Jefferson Memorial on it. The "old" version of the login (still in use from some pages) works fine. https://www.dropbox.com/s/l8t81tj620sswbm/WaPo-page.png

    1P: 6.8.9 (Mac)

@AlanTheBeast: Which OS and browser versions? Like Michael, I'm not having any trouble filling on the page you linked and showed in your screenshot. Are you maybe getting mixed up with one of the single sign in options there, which would involve different URLs, or using an old login that was saved on a different page? Saving a new one manually might help you, and letting us know the specifics ("login does not fill" does not tell me anything about the steps you're taking and what's happening) would help us.

    @brenty:

    1. When I hit CMD-\ , 1Password's dropdown is for the correct account with the right username and PW. There is only 1 1P entry for WaPo.
    2. The username does not fill. But the password fills - and the website lets me in.
    3. If 1Password thought it were a new site, it would prompt me to save creds.

Chrome is up to date (latest version per "About Chrome")
1Password is up to date (per Check for updates in 1Password).

In 1P I deleted the website links for WaPo, and added the specific page.
    SAME RESULT. Screenshot: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bn5ixakef8v2rcj/WaPoSignin.png

Another strange thing: Since last week when I log in to this forum on Chrome, I'm instantly logged out.
Safari is no problem. (And yes, same behaviour with Safari wrt logins at WaPo).

@AlanTheBeast: Thanks. One thing you could try is creating a new Login for the site in 1Password to see if that fills better. But it may just be that we're getting a better result because we're using the current version of 1Password, where we've made a lot of improvements to help with filling on websites this past year and a half. The old version also won't work at all with the latest version of Safari. So you might want to consider upgrading at some point.

Regarding signing into the forum, do you have the same issue if you do it in a private browsing window? Someone else reported a similar odd issue recently, and they had some caching issue that was resolved by clearing it. Also check the URL you have saved in your Login item, in case it's actually for a signout page.
