Quick copy flow for credit cards

1Password 7.3.1 changed the Quick Copy flow for credit cards to Number > Expiration > CVV from Number > CVV > Expiration (#3526).

I argue this change increased the number of steps in most users’ workflow for this reason: Rarely does the expiration date on a credit card form appear in a format that allows a successful paste. The date can be in any one of several formats where paste fails: a date picker, a list box, separate fields for month and date (such that you cannot paste into both fields at the same time), or a two-digit year. Only for instances in which the form accepts “MM/YYYY” does the paste succeed.

After the change in flow, instead of having Quick Copy copy the CVV, I now have to manually copy the CVV (to replace the expiration) or swipe away from and back to 1Password to copy to the next item (the CVV). Previously, I would mentally note the expiration (because more likely than not I’d have to manually enter it anyway) and have the CVV available in the clipboard.

Lastly, in 1Password the order in a credit card entry is Number > CVV > Expiration, so it does not flow to copy out of order.

  • Hey @verdi1987

Thanks for the feedback on this. I'll pass your thoughts along to development for their consideration. 👍🏻

Also, for what it's worth, our share sheet extension can fill credit card items. You may want to give that a try.

Thanks, @Ben. I do know the share sheet fills credit cards. However, in most non-Safari apps you cannot access the share sheet.

True. It will only work in web browsers. :+1:
