Merge all my vaults on all devices into one single vault across all devices.

I have 1password 7 on a Mac (7.3.2), a PC (7.3.712 via Windows 10), and my iPhone 8. I seem to have three different vaults, none of which appear on all three devices. I just want one vault that syncs across all my devices. At this point I've got lots of different entries across the three vaults but am willing to spend a couple of hours manually fixing that - so long as I can just figure out how to get one single vault on all my devices. I also need to make sure this one single vault backs up to Dropbox. The three vaults are labeled "Personal," "Primary," and "1Password." On my PC I have "personal" and "1password." On my Mac I have "personal" and "primary." On my iPhone I have "primary" and "1password." I figured I could just add an existing vault" to one of my three 1password platforms but the settings don't seem to allow for this, at least not intuitively. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi @neil8507

I would recommend getting the "Personal" vault on all of your devices by signing into your 1Password membership account. To do so, I'd recommend having a copy of your Emergency Kit handy:

Get to know your Emergency Kit

Then copy any items that exist in the other vaults, but are missing from Personal, into Personal. Finally, delete all of the vaults except the Personal vault. Instructions for deleting the extraneous vaults can be found here:

    https://support.1password.com/migrate-1password-account/#set-up-your-other-devices

Please note that the Primary vault typically has to be the last one to be removed from any particular device.

Thanks, but how do I go about getting the Personal vault on my iphone 8?

  • @neil8507

In 1Password under Settings > Accounts do you have any accounts listed on the iPhone 8? If not you can use your Emergency Kit to add yours.

This is confusing. I only have two, Primary and Personal. Can I just delete Primary and will everything still remain in Personal? Or do I do the reverse? I should have kept 1Password 6 instead of upgrading..7 is so complicated compared to 6... using a mac

@kattnip - if you have a 1Password account you've recently opened, then yes -- you should make sure your data was migrated properly, then remove the Primary vault. You can't remove the Personal vault because it's the default vault of your 1Password account; if you're signed into the account within 1Password for Mac (which it sounds as if you are), that vault will be present. I believe I said much the same thing to you in another thread -- let me know how you got on with that, and if you have any further questions/issues. :)
