My IOS devices running IOS 13.1.2 are not syncing the data bases. My MAC 10.4.6 and IPAD running with 12.4.2 does.

I can manually sync but it does not regularly refresh .

  • Hi @kenruss47

If you sign in at https://my.1password.com/ and create a new item, does that item appear on all of your devices?

    Please let me know.

If I creat a new 1Password record on my iPad running iOS 13 that record will show up on my Mac and old iPad but not the iOS devices running IOS 13. If I manually cia 1 password sync they show up bit sync does not automatically re run.

Do you see a vault called "Primary" on any of these devices? You can look in the vault switcher at the top left corner of the apps.

Is there a way to schedule sync on IOS 13?

  • @kenruss47

I've asked a couple of questions now that you haven't answered. I'm going to have trouble helping you get this to work the way you expect if you won't answer my questions. :(

Is there a way to schedule sync on IOS 13?

No. There is not. Sync doesn't happen on a schedule. It should happen any time a change is made. Could you please answer these two questions for me:

    1. If you sign in at https://my.1password.com/ and create a new item, does that item appear on all of your devices?
    2. Do you see a vault called "Primary" on any of these devices? You can look in the vault switcher at the top left corner of the apps.

Please let me know. I'd like to help you get this working, but I need you to help me help you. :)

I did log on to my1password.com and created a test account in the private vault. Two things happened the test account showed up on the IOS 13 (iPhone) and the IPAD also running IOS 13 and the MAC. And when I reauthenticated to client 1password the sync started.

    What starts the sync activity?

Make sure your device is not Low power mode and 1password has been enabled in Setting > General > Background App Refresh. If so if would be synced automatically.

That's great. So, it sounds like when adding items from my.1password.com everything worked as expected. Is that correct?

And when I reauthenticated to client 1password the sync started.

Could you please elaborate about what you mean by this?

    What starts the sync activity?

Sync happens automatically all the time in the background. Whenever a change is made anywhere that should cause a sync.

Make sure your device is not Low power mode and 1password has been enabled in Setting > General > Background App Refresh. If so if would be synced automatically.

Good tips; thanks for sharing, @whisky.

I do have Background App Refresh turned on.

What I am finding that is different between my iPhone (IOS 13.1.2) and iPad (IPAD os 13.1.2) and older IOS.

On the iPhone when I authenticate to 1password it invokes sync every time. This appears to be the only time sync happens automatically.

On the iPad if 1password was one of the tasks currently running authentication does not complete sync but acts like it has. if I force quit 1password and then run 1password and authenticate it completes the sync and updates in the database show.

Since there appears to be no background sync capability the only way to get data updates is to force quit 1password and run 1password fresh each time.

    Thanks
    call if that would help.

1Password can sync when it is the active app. It is not necessary to quit it and launch it again. You can just switch to it. However, it will not sync at all if it cannot establish a secure connection, so depending on how you have your network environment setup your mileage may vary.

Some progress observed. I noticed that 1password just was updated and one of the notes mentioned sync not working.
"Fixed some issues where sync did not happen automatically {4217}.

Looks like it improved the situation.

    Will review

Definitely let us know one way or the other, and the specifics if you do encounter any issues. :+1:

Sync is not fixed for the IOS13. UPDates only show up if I force quit 1password and run it again.

I'm not able to reproduce that, and we are not getting other reports like that either. Are you in low power mode, or using some security/VPN software/settings that may be interfering?

I can regularly repeat this sync issue. I am not in low power mode or using a VPN.

I am using dropbox for my 1password data storage.

If I just use my MAC and old IPAD air where the sync is done in the background every 60 seconds it works as expected. Both are running the latest 1password 7 software but the MAC has not been updated with the next OS and the IPAD is still on IOS 10.4.

Were the problem occurs is on the iPhones and Newer IPAD pro both running the latest 13.1.2
What am seeing there is when I make an 1password data change anywhere, those changes do not appear on these IOS devices.
The sync is silent and never runs even over night.

Re-authentication to 1password does not help yet sync acts like it has run.

If I "force quit" the 1password app on the IOS 13 devices the updates do show up. This is not a normal usage of 1password, as it is always left running and I just re-authenticate.

Here is a simple test to show:
Open 1password and authenticate on two IOS 13 devices iPhone and IPAD that share the same data.
Make a change on the iPhone and watch the IPAD to see if that record shows the change.
What I see on the IPAD is sync runs but the change does not take place.

Thanks for the additional information. We'll see if we can reproduce it and figure out what's going on. Perhaps something changed in iOS 13 that we're not aware of, since you noticed it happens only on your latest iPad and iPhone. In the case of Dropbox, we're also reliant on their APIs, so maybe there's some interaction with that on the latest iOS as well.
