new version and cannot sign in or save new passwords
I was using an older version of the program and recently updated to v7, but I am not sure I have completed the update and am only able to use old items. Cannot sign into account, cannot edit old items, cannot create new items.

No, but nor am I able to do so...I'm stuck in an endless loop of repeating links to unhelpful pages.

So every time I try to sign in to update my account I get a message telling me to scan my code--which I do not have, or sign in using my secret key, which I have no recollection of ever having. Any attempt to retrieve this info leads me back to a page asking me to sign in...which in turn, asks me for the scan or secret key. It is a total catch 22. I have been using this program for about 4 years, but this experience is not engendering any brand loyalty.

It sounds like you might not have created an account at all, and that's why you don't have the login information. If you want to use 1Password 7 with a Membership (which is paid with a subscription), you can create an account here. During account creation, you can choose your Master Password and you will get your Secret Key and Emergency Kit :)

If I create a new account, will I risk losing all the passwords stored in my prior account? That would be a problem.
