Passwords were DELETED with last iPhone backup [Data still on 1Password.com]
PLEASE HELP! I backed up my iPhone XR to my Mac and ALL MY PASSWORDS are GONE! My phone syncs with my iPad and I don't want to lose everything if they sync with each other... What do I do???? The sync was done to back up my iPhone to my Mac. I did the same thing with my iPad and everything is ok there. I am worried that when the two apps sync, I will lose everything as it will take my phone files...
1Password Version: 7.4.2
Extension Version: on IOS?
OS Version: 13.2
Sync Type: not sure...

Luckily my passwords didn't sync with my iPad... was able to uninstall and reinstall the app and get them back.
However, there is still an issue with my Mac and syncing as this will occur again. The 1password app is showing under my files for my phone. If I try to delete it, it gives me a message saying. "Are you sure you want to delete 1Password from this phone".
I don't know what to do... I obviously don't want to delete the app but syncing to my Mac again is going to result in the same situation if I leave it there. WHY is it even there?0 -
Hi @kelsie47!
I backed up my iPhone XR to my Mac and ALL MY PASSWORDS are GONE!
Can you please let us know the steps that you used to back up your phone exactly?

In your next paragraph you wrote "I obviously don't want to delete the app" but here you are saying that you are trying to delete it. Can you please clarify?

I connected my iPhone to my Mac to back it up to my computer. My Mac OS is Catalina and is the latest update. My phone shows up in the Finder now instead of iTunes. I selected back up to this computer as normal.
When I discovered the passwords were gone, I then deleted the 1Password app on my phone and reinstalled it. I was prompted to sign in and get my passwords back. I did that via the method of signing in with all my information. I didn’t want to use iCloud as that seems to be where passwords are not being stored. I did get them back - this time - but I am afraid this will happen again.
Afterwards, I noticed that 1Password is showing in the Files section of my phone backup. After speaking with Apple Support, I was informed that this is a section where apps that share files are shown. That’s where I get the message that I wrote above. I don’t know if deleting that file will cause the deletion of the app on my phone along with the data, or what will happen as a result. If that file is being used to sync, I THINK that is why I lost all my passwords. However, that same file shows when I back up my iPad and that backup did not cause me to lose passwords on that device (I backed up my iPad before I did my phone). I’m confused...0 -
I'm not sure I'm in a position to explain the situation with what you're seeing / not seeing in Finder / iTunes, but the best way to back up your 1Password data is through the use of a 1Password membership:
About 1Password membership
This option operates independently of Apple's sync and backup systems, so even if something goes wrong there your encrypted data is still safely stored in your membership. If you are already using a membership, then I'd highly recommend printing a copy of your Emergency Kit, writing in your Master Password on it, and then storing that in a safe location such as a fire safe or bank deposit box.
Get to know your Emergency Kit
I hope that helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

I have a paid membership and my emergency kit info printed.
How do I back up through 1Paasword or do I need to do anything in particular? I don’t want this issue to arise again.0 -

If you sign in at https://my.1password.com/ do you see all of your 1Password data? If so you're already all set. Just make sure you don't have a vault called "Primary" on any of your devices.

They are all there and there is no Primary Vault. All looks good.
It's good to know that there is a location I can go if I have another problem.
I don't use 1password on my Mac - only my iPhone and iPad.
Thank you!0 -

Yes indeed. One of the many advantages of membership. :)
Thank you!
