Why does the popup take so long to appear?

When I press cmd+shift+\, it takes about half a second for the popup appear, and it feels like it takes even longer when I'm doing something that uses a lot of CPU (like watching a YouTube video). Why does it take so long?

I am not able to reproduce this here, the popup appears almost immediately for me. Do you see the same behavior even after rebooting your system?

Mine also comes up almost immediately, but that "almost" is about 3/4 of a second. It goes away in about 1/4 of a second when I press cmd+shift+\ a second time. Is yours faster than that?

I think so, although it's difficult to quantify exactly since we are talking about tens of seconds. Just out of curiosity: does the popup appear quicker if you use the "cmd+\" keyboard shortcut instead?

I tried a few more things and it seems to be much faster when i open the pop up outside of a browser window. So it might be some slowness with browser communication. I tried Firefox and Chrome, and just eyeballing it, it seems to take a quarter seconds outside of a browser, half a second in Firefox, and 3 seconds (!) in Chrome. I might have a really pathological Chrome configuration though.

If you are up for some testing, you could try this with a clean Chrome profile. Perhaps you will see some differences if there are no other extensions installed in the Chrome profile, or special configuration there that might interfere with this.
