Hi, I have 1Password 7 (v7.4.1) on my MBP with macOS Catalina 10.15.1. I The browser extensions stopped working (Safari, Firefox, and Chrome). I tried reinstalling 1Password7 but that did not do anything. When I click on the browser extension in Safari or Firefox, nothing happens. In Chrome, I get a modal that says the following:

I've also tried removing and reinstalling the extensions, but that did not help.

I am having the same problem. Not a huge inconvenience, but certainly frustrating. I hope wherever this went wrong (1Password or Apple) it gets fixed quickly.

Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry for the trouble. It seems like something is just hung up with Native Messaging on your system. You should be able to resolve that by Quitting 1Password Completely -- Command Control Option Q -- and then the browser before restarting both. Otherwise, if something is interfering with that, rebooting should do the trick. Let me know how it goes. :)

Hi @brenty, unfortunately that did not resolve the issue for me.

I had this problem, too. The suggested actions did not solve it (up to and including "restart the Mac"). Then, I took one more step, and it's working.

To make it work, I had to (in order):
    1. Quit 1Password completely
    2. Quit Safari (the only browser involved)
    3. Restart Mac
    4. Launch 1Password
    5. Log in to 1Password
    6. Launch Safari

It seems that 1PW needs to be unlocked / logged in before Safari starts?

@jackr: You unlocked 1Password before opening Safari? I can't say I've heard of that being necessary before, but I'm glad to hear it helped -- and grateful that you shared it here I case it benefits others. :)

@Sufian: Can you be more specific? Have you tried what I and jackr mentioned?

@brenty what you suggested did not work.

I just tried what @jackr mentioned and the browser extension looks to be working now.

Updated to Safari 13.0.3, (OS Mojave 10.14.6) and then updated to 1PW 7.4.1. I accidentally trashed the 1Password Updater from my doc after the install. Now the 1PW extension symbol shows for a few seconds on my Safari 13.0.3 menu bar when I open Safari, and then disappears. Clicking on the mini icon does nothing. Tried all the recommendations above. Still not working. Can't find the 1PW updater anywhere. I am wondering if that is the problem for me?

And now the 1PW Safari Extension has disappeared! OK, I admit, I uninstalled it, thinking I could reinstall and it would all be OK. Can't seem to get it back. Mini won't work either. Do I have to reinstall the whole 1PW?

@JRWalt: How did you "uninstall" it? That shouldn't be possible with Safari App Extensions, and I am not able to do that here. It's part of the app itself. Probably best to avoid messing around with it if it's already behaving strangely. Better to figure out what the problem might be first and then come up with a sensible plan of action.

Not sure I did, or not. It was in the apps bar, and I right clicked and quit it or something. Sorry I am not more clear. Anyway, I am having some of the same problems I see others have been having with the newest update. The Ext is no longer in the Safari Ext list. The mini doesn't work for Safari. I can open 1PW from the full app, but that isn't easy to do. It certainly appears that others are having similar problems. I've tried the full quit, restart, open 1PW, sign in, then open Safari, and I get nothing.

When I try to look up new Updates in 1PW main app, I get the following notification - (The Application “1Password Updater.app” could not be launched it was not found.)

@JRWalt: Thanks for the details. Yeah that's definitely not normal. It sounds like you've got a few problems there: Safari isn't loading the extension from 1Password, and the updater is missing(?) from 1Password's app bundle -- heck, maybe the extension is too! The best thing to do would be install a fresh copy:

    1. Quit 1Password Completely -- Command Option Control Q -- and any 1Password processes listed in Activity Monitor
    2. Quit Safari and any other open web browsers
    3. Drag all copies of 1Password to the Trash -- really: do a Spotlight search and make sure that none remain anywhere on the system
    4. Restart your Mac
    5. Install a fresh copy of 1Password: https://1password.com/downloads/
    6. Open and unlock 1Password
    7. Open Safari and make sure that 1Password is shown and enabled in Preferences > Extensions

Let me know how it goes. :)

    Will all my data remain?

@JRWalt: 1Password data is completely separate from the app. As long as you don't manually destroy your data or have some "cleaner" app do it, it will be unaffected by reinstalling the app.
