Upgraded to v7.4, now locked out
I just upgraded from the 6.8.9 to 7.4. There was an error message at the end of the install that I don't recall. The sign in window showed up next, but I can't get past that because it won't recognize my very correctly typed in master password. I've tried quitting and restarting 1PW, but no success in getting past the login screen.
I searched you forum to find other variants of this issue. Some advice was to remove and reinstall 1PW7. I can't move the app to the trash because it's reported to be open despite the fact that I quit it just fine.
I had just the app, no subscription issues here. I'm syncing to other devices (Macs, iPhones, iPads) and the master password works fine there.
Going to try to restart MacOS and keep 1PW from starting up so I can install it.
Will report back with results.
Ideas?
1Password Version: 7.4
Extension Version: huh??
OS Version: MacOS 10.15.1
Sync Type: Not syncing yet

Restarted MACOS in safe made and was able to trash !PW app. Then reinstalled 1PW7 with the same result: the login window does not recognize my master password. I would like to go back to v6, but I'm not sure how to do that.

I managed to revert back to V6.8.9, sync with my Dropbox folder, and log into my vault using the same master password V7.4 refused to honor. I guess I could try to upgrade again, but I'm rather hesitant to do so at this point, at least until I hear from someone who can explain what is going on.

Along the way, before I reverted to V6, I managed to start a clean V7 that asked me to locate my shared data on Dropbox and other locations. I went to the same folder I eventually used to get V6 working, but V7 would not allow me to select the shared file which had a .agilekeychain extension. Mean anything?

Welcome to the forum, @conrodi! Sorry for both the wait and the troubles. The reason for the most-recent issue would be that in 1Password 7 for Mac, we finally formally retired the older Agile Keychain format of sync keychain that's used with Dropbox and Folder sync, in favor of the newer, smaller and more robust/flexible OPVault. What you'd need to do is make sure you fully Quit 1Password 6 and the Mini by typing
^⌥⌘Q
(or just holding down theControl
andOption
keys as you choose Quit from the 1Password menu), then take these steps:- Open 1Password 7
- Create a new vault using File > New Vault
- Click File > Import.
- Choose the top option (1Password Keychain)
- Make sure the "Import Into" dialogue is set to the vault you want, then click "Choose File"
- Navigate to your existing .agilekeychain file in Dropbox and click "Open"
- You'll be required to enter the vault password for that Agile Keychain
- Repeat these steps with any other vaults in Agile Keychain format: create new vault, then import using this process.
Let me know how that works for you. :)

Well, that was fun. Your system sent me an email with your response and there was a link to reply. So I clicked on the link and composed a reply. When I submitted the reply the system said I needed to confirm my email first. So I did that, but in the process lost the content of my reply. Now I need to recompose what I just wrote. This time it will be better...

Wow, did everyone have to go through this process, or did I miss something along the way???
I have reverted and am now operational on 1PW6. So I guess I will have to cleanse 1PW6 from my system again. That was the only way I was able to see my Dropbox keychain from 1PW7. When I installed 1PW7 with 1PW6 still in place, I arrived at the condition that started this thread: the newly installed 1PW7 wanted a password to proceed, but it refused to honor MY master password.
So, cleanse V6, install V7, launch V7 as virgin installation, import keychain. And then I supposed I have to redirect my other devices to use the OPVault I just created. Sounds risky, but I think I can do it. Once again, did everyone have to go through this process, or did I miss something along the way???

I think this is because you are using the very old .agilekeychain format. If your Dropbox data was already in the newer .opvault format, you could simply point 1Password 7 to it ;) However in this case, you will have to convert it first (but it will have to be done only once).
