I just purchased a new iMac and I want to transfer the data that is in my old iMac from 1Password 6. I have a standalone account. I installed the new 1P version in my new iMac but there is nothing there when I sing in with my master password.

  • Hi @cdiaz

    1Password 7 requires either a separate license purchase or a 1Password membership. 1Password 7 for Mac from the Mac App Store is subscription-only. We're no longer advertising licenses, but they are available within 1Password 7 when downloaded from our website for customers who are already familiar with that situation and are comfortable with the "DIY" approach they offer. I'd highly recommend taking a look at 1Password membership, which will give you access to the latest versions of 1Password for all of your compatible devices (no more separate upgrade fees). You can read about the benefits here:

    About 1Password membership

    If you decide to go that route you can read about how to migrate your data so that it'll be available on any device you use with your account here:

    Move your existing 1Password data to a 1Password account

    If you'd prefer a license you can select the "need a license? We have those too" option from the welcome screen. A 1Password 7 for Mac license, which allows one person to use 1Password 7 on all of their compatible Macs, is normally $65 USD + tax. They are currently (as of writing) on sale for a limited time for $50 USD + tax. That promotion may end at any time now. It was originally planned to run for a couple of weeks, and has now extended for quite some time, so I wouldn't be surprised if it ends at any point in the near future. If you opt to go this route you'd need to sync your devices using a 3rd party service (either iCloud or Dropbox):

    Sync your 1Password data

    I hope that helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

    Thank you Ben! I have created an account and signed up for a membership, I have the apps installed in my new Mac, but the new 1Password is not asking me to add an account. I still can't figure out how to migrate my data from my old iMac that is running 1Password 6 and is syncing to Dropbox as well. Thank you for your help!

  • @cdiaz

    Please try installing 1Password 7. The migration code has changed significantly from v6 to v7, and should be a much smoother experience with 7.

    @cdiaz:

    What do you see when you launch 1Password on your new Mac after installing it?

    I took a screen shot and blocked my name and email. Here is what I see.

  • Thanks @cdiaz. The short answer is yes: if possible, you should install 1Password 7 on the old Mac in order to migrate the data to your 1Password account. The reason we recommend this is that the migration code has changed significantly from 1Password 6 and is much improved in 1Password 7. Once installed you'd follow these instructions:

    https://support.1password.com/migrate-1password-account/#migrate-your-data-on-your-main-device

    Please make sure to follow the bit about deleting the Primary vault from each device at the end, once the migration is complete. When all is said and done there shouldn't be a 'Primary' vault anywhere.

    Thank you Ben, sorry for the late reply, I was traveling and didn't have a change to look at this yet. I will install 1Password 7 in the old iMac and let you know if I run into any issues. Thanks again for your help!!
