Why is master password not being recognised on upgrading to 1Password 7 on Mac?

1Password has been working well for years across iOS devices and Mac. I was forced into updating to 1Password 7 today in order for the Safari extension to work on the Mac. However on completing the upgrade (via download from agile bits website) the master password has stopped working on the Mac. I have the emergency kit and was never asked to change the master password. Fortunately master password continues to work correctly on my iPhone (for the time being). Please help as I am really nervous that I am on the verge of losing decades of passwords.
