Catalina ver 10.15.4, Safari Version 13.1 (15609.1.20.111.8), 1Password 7 Version 7.4.3 (70403002) Thanks for looking at this. It had been working up until a few days ago.

Thank you for the confirmation. That is the same setup that I have on my machine and I am not seeing the issue here, so it should definitely work for you too. Just for confirmation, when you said that you tried restarting 1Password, did you do it from the menu bar (right-click on 1Password mini in the menu bar at the top right of your screen > Quit 1Password Completely)>

I am having the exact same issue. Attempts to check the box to enable the 1password extension do not work. The box never checks and stays empty.
I have done a full removal of 1 password per https://support.1password.com/uninstall-1password/ I have re-installed and rebooted several times.
I have tried the previous suggestions of turning off content blocker, quitting safari and rebooting the Mac along the way. I've quit 1 password (right-click on 1Password mini in the menu bar at the top right of your screen > Quit 1Password Completely) several times and rebooted. All to no avail. Looking in console, I am also getting the message "Not enabling extension due to security measures" when I attempt to check the box. Turning off content blocking however does not work in my case. There's definitely something wrong here. I've just started using 1Password, coming from another mainstream competing product. I've didn't have that issue with that product, or any issue doing something as simple as enabling an extension for any app. With 1Password, that simple action is frustratingly unable to be completed.

Hi @dwaall345
I'm very sorry to hear 1Password isn't integrating with Safari as expected. I understand these instructions may be a bit similar to ones you've already tried, but we've had very high success rates if these steps are followed exactly. Please try these instructions:
- Quit Safari
- Open and then quit 1Password completely —
⌘⌥⌃Q
(Command Option Control Q) - Drag 1Password to the Trash, but DO NOT use a "cleaner" app to remove 1Password if you have one (MacKeeper, CleanMyMac, AppZapper, etc)
- Empty the Trash
- Restart your Mac
- Install 1Password from our website: Download for Mac
- Open 1Password
- Make sure the extension is shown and enabled in Safari under
Preferences
>Extensions
(do not click "More Extensions") - Verify that you're able to use the extension to fill logins
Let me know how it turns out. :)

Ben,
Did everything you wrote down.

Regarding other settings that have to be turned on or off.
Are there any settings for 1Password or Safari that otherwise have to be enabled in.. for example Security and Privacy settings?0 -
Ben, I too have no succcess with your instructions. I had found them prior to posting while searching the forum and tried them twice without any success. Still can't select 1Password in Safari's preference window.

Ben, just tried it again. 1Password extension is there, it just won't let me select it.

Hi folks,
If this has continued after trying the instructions then I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from your Mac:
Sending Diagnostics Reports (Mac)
Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to
support+forum@agilebits.com
.With your email please include:
- A link to this thread:
https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/110887/extension-button-in-safari-does-nothing/p1
- Your forum username
That way I can "connect the dots" when I see your diagnostics in our inbox.
You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so I can track down the diagnostics and ensure that this issue is dealt with quickly. :)
Once I see the diagnostics I'll be able to better assist you. Thanks very much!
Ben

I sent the diagnostic report a t 8:15pm central time. I never did get a reply with a support ID number. I did use the assistant to generate the email with diagnostic report with the link referenced and my forum name. Thanks for the help.

Just double checking that someone will still be getting back to me after reviewing my diagnostics report. The only reply I've received was an automatic one telling me to reboot my computer. Thanks for the help.

Hi @bwcacanoe
My apologies; it looks like you sent the diagnostics to
support@agilebits.com
instead ofsupport+forum@agilebits.com
, which resulted in the ticket being automatically closed after BitBot replied. We should've caught that on our end. I'm sorry that didn't happen. I've now re-opened the ticket so that our extension specialists can review the report and reply via email.Ben

Found a writeup discussing this issue, which appears to be an Apple bug, and an unexpected solution that worked here: relocate the Safari Preferences window on the screen.
Jeff Johnson's writeup here suggests that this is a bug in Catalina 10.15.3/10.15.4 where it's trying to prevent malicious software from clicking the box itself for its own extensions, but casts the net too wide and blocks real user clicks as well.

Do you happen to have an application installed and running that puts a full screen overlay on your screen such as Zoom while screen sharing, or "Screen Dimmer"? Not being able to click the checkbox to enable the Safari Extensions while there is such a window on screen is a security feature of Safari.

No I don’t, but I have an answer. Zoltan sent me this and dumping the caches worked after reboot. Every time there is an update to the operating system I lose 1Password, but following these steps and dumping the caches works to get it back.
Restart your Mac and hold down the SHIFT key as soon as it restarts.
Let go of the SHIFT key when you see the Apple logo. Your Mac will start booting up in safe mode. Give it time.
Once you're in, open and unlock the 1Password desktop app.
Open Safari and see if the 1Password extension works. If it does, restart your Mac normally (without holding SHIFT) and all should be well. If it still doesn't work, continue to the next step.
While in Safari, select the "Safari" menu on the top left next to the Apple logo and select "Preferences". A new preferences window will pop up.
Click the "Advanced" tab in the preferences window and enable the developer menu option.
Click the "Develop" menu on the top menu bar of your Mac and select "Empty Caches".
In Safari's preferences window, go to the "Extensions" tab and try to enable the 1Password extension by checking it with a check mark.
Restart your Mac normally (without SHIFT) and see if the extension is working in Safari.0 -
I'm glad to hear that worked out for you. :+1:

Still not working on Catalina 10.15.5. Seems the issue is a real Apple bug, see a technical expertise by a former Apple developer on this link: https://lapcatsoftware.com/articles/enable-extensions.html
Let's hope this will be solved in Catalina 10.15.6, the beta version has benne released one week ago.
