Vaults: What does "On my Mac" mean, and why would I want to use a vault like that?

Can someone point me to one of the help files which explains this basic concept?

I start here: https://support.1password.com/category/getting-started/

Then I go here:
https://support.1password.com/getting-started-mac/

Then I give up - what's up with the documentation? It seems great, but why does it lack
the basic explanation of why I need a vault on my Mac and another vault somewhere else?

    Hi @nateneff!

Where are you getting stuck in the documentation exactly? A vault on your Mac is just that: a vault that is not synced with other devices. If you use a 1Password Membership, you should store vaults in your 1Password account, so they can be synced on your other devices.

Okay, thanks - I just wanted to see where in the documentation this is described - I wouldn't
mind a piece of documentation that would state exactly what you said :-)
