Safari extention autofill & startup
Hi,
Is there an issue with the safari extension? Every time I try to use it it opens only the second time. Either when I click on the icon in Safari or when I right click and open it via the menu. Thereby auto fill never works.
I use a 1Password version downloaded from your website not from the App Store.

No, not that I am aware of. I notice you're on Catalina. Can you try this set of instructions to see if it clears things up?
Quit Safari and any other open web browsers.
Open and then quit 1Password completely.
- Hold down the Control and Option keys on your keyboard and choose 1Password > Quit 1Password Completely from the menu bar.
Restart the Mac.
Open 1Password.
Open the browser(s).
Verify that you're able to use the extension to fill logins.

Hi @ag_tommy ,
Unfortunately this didn't worked. I also notice that in both methods of trying to have auto fill I always have to login with my fingerprint. Normally it should stay logged in for a couple of minutes right? I think I've set this to 15 minutes.
I've also did a complete reinstall of the app; this unfortunately didn't help as well. Completely deleted from apps folder and other files by hazel.
Is there any other solution?

I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from your Mac:
Sending Diagnostics Reports (Mac)
Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to
support+forum@agilebits.com
.With your email please include:

That way I can "connect the dots" when I see your diagnostics in our inbox.
You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so I can track down the diagnostics and ensure that this issue is dealt with quickly. :)
Once I see the diagnostics I'll be able to better assist you. Thanks very much!

Just as an extra data point, I have what sounds like the same problem. At first after rebooting, everything is fine. But at some point the browser extension stops responding. I click on it and nothing happens. Same thing with the menu bar icon. I have to open the full 1Password app and copy & paste passwords.
I'm on Catalina 10.15.4. I just updated to the latest version this morning, and it's happening again already. My 1Password version is:
1Password 7
Version 7.4.3 (70403002)
1Password StoreThanks,
Martin.

Would you mind sending in a diagnostic report. I have a very early theory and that DR may help shed light on the subject. You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here.

The diagnostic report doesn't include any private information like your logins, Master Password, or Secret Key:

Please send that report tosupport+forum@1Password.com
Be sure to include the following information with your submission.Your user name here in the forum.

Thanks, here's the number: [#IDF-56126-197].
One thing though: this all might not be that helpful, as the plugin is working right now. I made a change based on a suggestion in another forum post, which was to change the Safari Preferences to not use content blockers on 1password.com.

Thanks for sending that over. Sadly, you shot holes in my theory. :) But, thank you for mentioning that content blocker portion. I can suggest checking that to another user.
Please let us know if the previous behavior returns.

Hi—
Autofill hasn't worked on Safari for me for a long time. It's the one thing that keeps me using Firefox. I "Quit 1Password Completely," trashed the application, restarted my MacBook Air, downloaded the latest Mac app, and still it's not working. I went through similar threads for other tips—the extension is enabled in Safari's preferences, etc. It works just fine, I just have to use my mouse and click 1P Mini in Safari's toolbar in order to fill my credentials.
Should I, too, submit a diagnostics report?

Perhaps. :)
Before doing that let's see if we can shake the tree, and grab the fruit. Can you tell us what version of macOS you're using? Along with the version of 1Password?
Do you have the browser AutoFill enabled? If so, try disabling it first and let us know if that helps. https://support.1password.com/disable-browser-password-manager/

Hi, thanks for responding. MacBook Air 2018, MacOS 10.15.4, 1Password 7 / Version 7.4.3 (70403002) / 1Password Store, browser AutoFill disabled (all four checkboxes off), Safari password/keychain manager off …

I have had good results from the following set of instructions. Please try them, in order being sure not to skip anything.

Hi @ag_tommy. Thanks for making that suggestion. I'm afraid to say, however, that it did not work. As I said in my earlier post, I can use the extension to fill logins; what's not working—and, now that I think about it, what may never have worked—is the autofill function. Autofill works just fine when I use Chrome and/or Firefox. I'd like to use Safari, but right now the only way I can access my logins (which are properly "suggested") is by clicking the 1P icon in the Safari toolbar.
For what it's worth, the site I tried to use it on is Airtable.
Thanks,

As a follow-up: perhaps I'm misusing language here. In Chrome and Firefox, as soon as a page loads with login/password boxes, a little 1P icon shows up that allows me to quickly enter/autofill my credentials. That is what I'm missing in Safari. But perhaps that's something other than what you call autofill and perhaps that's not a feature of the Safari extension. Sorry for any confusion.

Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying @briansholis. That is actually a difference between 1Password X and the 1Password desktop app extension / Safari App Extension. That feature is only available in 1Password X. We do not currently have a version of 1Password X available for Safari.

So I have been having a similar problem for some time. I am in a website using Safari. I want to open another website. I click on 1Password browser extension and select the desired login and click on "Go". Nothing happens. I click on the browser 1P extension icon again, and a new tab opens, and the login information is filled by 1P.
At first I thought that I was just impatient, and it was a coincidence as I went towards the icon, the tab opened at the same time. But now I know that I have to click a second time on the extension icon for it to open.
When I am already on a website, and ask Safari 1P extension, to fill a login, it operates normally...
macOS 10.15.4
1Password 7
Version 7.5 (70500003)
1Password Store
Safari extension version 7.5 from 1Password 7Jim

Thanks 1P. Your email suggestions to do a full quit (Control - Option) and computer restart have got 1Password properly opening new tabs and filling again.
Thanks for your help
