Difficulty with initial update of weak/compromised passwords
Hi, I'm new to 1password7 using macOS Catalina version 10.15.4, Safari version 13.1 (15609.1.20.111.8), and 1Password 7 Version 7.4.3 (70403002) 1Password Store.
I have imported 300+ passwords from Safari and I'm now trying to clean up. When I visit a site and try to generate a new password, 1password seems to be creating a new entity that contains only the password and the URL but no username. I have to edit, change the type and manually add the username. I'm sure it's because I'm not using the tool correctly. I'd appreciate any pointers to support documents or videos or discussion threads.
Thank you.
1Password Version: 7.4.3

Sync Type: not sure

Hi @Jongiff,
Welcome to 1Password. :) Some of this is by design and for some of this you may be running into a bug.
When you generate a password using the password generator it is supposed to be saved in the passwords category. This is by design. It is a failsafe measure such that if you don't end up saving a login item or something technical goes sideways and it isn't saved you haven't lost the password. What is supposed to happen though is that when you save a login item using that same password, it should automatically delete the password item. We have found a bug where in some cases that isn't happening. We hope to have that fixed up soon.
A few guides we have that may be of interest, related to these topics:
- If you used the password generator and can't find the password to sign in
- Saving, filling, and changing your passwords
- How to save a Login manually in your browser
- Sign in to websites with username and password split across multiple pages
I hope that helps!
Ben
