Safe to just delete entries for old, no longer used sites?

I'm going through and updating passwords that are showing as vulnerable or repeated by Watchtower. Every so often some sites that I have not logged into for a very long time do not recognize my login or password -- sometimes my user ID is a name or number, but now they are asking for an email address and none of my email addresses is recognized. I don't really use these sites anymore and would be fine just deleting the info--- my question is if I can't figure out how to log in and the password reset feature can't find my account, is it safe for me to just do that? Or should I contact the company and ask for my data to be removed? (I'm in CA so covered by CCPA).

Hi @nsherman! Welcome to the forum!

I think you should reach out to the company for safety: if they changed something in their login mechanism, they will be able to tell you what happened to your account too. If you want them to delete your data, this gives you the opportunity to ask that as well.
