I'm seeing the same behavior, too. Unfortunately detecting the email field as a login field can be difficult when the password is on a different page. I'll report this to our developers.

this happened on the built in browser in my Google pixel (from the home screen search bar)

I'm not seeing this on my end. If you're visiting the site through the Google search bar, it should be opening in Chrome, and therefore will fill using Accessibility. Can you launch and unlock 1Password, tap Settings > Autofill, and make sure Accessibility is enabled? If it is, please disable, then re-enable it.
