I have the stand alone 1Password app then upgraded to 1Password 7 when a lot of things changed. There seems residue files from my older install.

In ~/Library/Containers I have the following folders:

  • 2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper
  • 2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword7-helper
  • com.agilebits.onepassword-osx
  • com.agilebits.onepassword7
  • com.agilebits.onepassword7-launcher
  • com.agilebits.onepassword7.1PasswordSafariAppExtension
  • com.agilebits.onepasswordnativemessaginghost

Which should I delete and which should I keep?
folder "2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/Data/Library/Backup/" has a lot of my old backups but none of the new.

Also all folders contains shortcuts to my file system like Music, Movies, Desktop...what going on here?

    2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper
    com.agilebits.onepassword-osx

These are the only ones I don't have that you do.

    2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword7-helper
    com.agilebits.onepassword7
    com.agilebits.onepassword7-launcher
    com.agilebits.onepassword7.1PasswordSafariAppExtension
    com.agilebits.onepasswordnativemessaginghost

I wouldn't delete any of those things. :) They're all a part of the current version of 1Password. Deleting any of them could cause 1Password to stop functioning. You can delete whatever backups you want.

Also all folders contains shortcuts to my file system like Music, Movies, Desktop...what going on here?

    That's a function of macOS's sandboxing.

I hope that helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

thanks a lot. I just have 1 more question.
I deleted everything 1password and agilebits on my computer, and reinstalled 1password. Somehow it knew my license key and registered it to my name. How is that possible?

  • @1passworduser

The license file is stored in the macOS keychain and also in your 1Password vault. If you reinstall on the same computer or use the same vault it is expected that 1Password will pick up that info. :)
