OTP Code Scanner - can't scan QR code (Catalina)

Trying to setup a OTP for a login. I can get the "1Password - Code Scanner" window to show, but it can't "see" the QR Code on the screen.
I am assuming this is because the 1Password App does not have the Screen Recording permission (under System Preferences -> Security & Privacy). There's no button for me to add other apps (no +/- button).

  • Hi @BogeyMan

Is this the window you're getting?

The Mac App Store version of 1Password now requires codes be dragged and dropped onto the scanner, rather than the scanner being dragged over the code. I apologize for any confusion caused — it seems we had originally misunderstood the rules regarding the use of the Screen Recording permission for App Store apps and had to correct our behavior there. The version of 1Password from our website does not have this limitation.

    Yup. That's the one.
Can I simply un-install the AppStore version and install the downloaded-from-AgileBits version?

  • You can indeed. :) I recommend quitting Safari (if open), once you've downloaded the installer, before installing 1Password.
