trouble adding login info from all websites; new account

When I click 1Password browser extension on Safari after adding user/password info to a webpage, I get "search (name of)vault" popup instead of "login" even when there are no items saved in the vault. All software up-to-date. Tried restart. Using 1Password7 with OS 10.15.6 and Safari extension.
