Touch ID option gone from iPad

After the latest iPadOS update 1PW started asking me to type in the master pw every time. Went into settings to check what's going on with Touch ID and there is no option to turn it on whatsoever.

    That indicates that the OS is not presenting Touch ID as being available when queried. Restarting your device may help, or disabling Touch ID completely and setting it up again. Failing that, you'd need to reach out to Apple for assistance, since that's all handled at the device/OS level, and we don't have any way of knowing what might be going wrong there or how to address it. Let me know how it goes!
