"Remember Me" rehash
After years of being annoyed but doing nothing about it, I'm here to re-raise the issue of the "Remember me" checkbox on webpages getting cleared on submission during login.
I finally decided to look into it and found these old posts:
- https://1password.community/discussion/87155/1password-needs-to-be-more-user-friendly-with-remember-me-checkboxes
- https://1password.community/discussion/10432/34-remember-me-keep-me-logged-in-34-checkbox-being-skipped
- https://1password.community/discussion/70818/i-cant-get-1pw-to-save-remember-me-checkbox-for-login
In one of the posts, someone contemplates whether incidences exceed reports of the issue. I can assure that they do, as I've hit the issue on many sites many times over the years. Just never pursued it. Priorities, you know.
I also read above that 1Password is likely making some assumption that any checkbox related to login is an "email me". No idea why it would be coded to make that assumption rather than to indicate "unknown" if that's the case.
Nonetheless, I tried removing the bogus "Email me" field in the latest troublesome login, and that indeed alleviated the checkbox clearing issue.
So now I have my workaround, which is good, because in all the times this has happened in the past, never once has the login record actually indicated a "remember me" checkbox for me to either set or delete. Presumably, there was an "email..." checkbox in all such cases hiding in plain sight. But I didn't know to read those perversely.
Anyhow, here's another vote to fix this in a rational way. I will bet that many more people see this than report it, as the issue, if even noticed upon submission, is not a showstopper, but an inconvenience for next time you log in, at which point you may not remember this detail, or you may even blame yourself.
So, yeah, here's hoping. Thanks for considering.

Hey @stevefal ,
Thanks for taking the time to joins us here in the forum and raise this issue! If the login was originally saved when that "Remember me" box was unchecked, then 1Password will always uncheck it when you autofill your credentials according to logic.
As you found out, there's a way to view that info in your login item and modify it there.
We did improve things in our 1Password X extension quite recently, as you can see in our June update: https://app-updates.agilebits.com/product_history/B5X#v20115The basic information in your message here shows that you are using 1Password 6.8.9. Is that correct? If so you should know that 1Password 6 is a legacy version that has not been updated in several years now (and will not update again in the future), so there's definitely no chance of improving things there.
I strongly recommend you give 1Password X a try by signing up to an account with us (which will give you a 14 days free trial): https://1password.com/sign-up/
An account will also grant you the option to install 1Password 7 and any newer version that will be released in the future for as long as you keep the account active. If you encounter any websites where the "Remember me" checkbox is not being handled correctly by 1Password X or 1Password 7, please do let us know the URL so we can test it here and improve it accordingly :)

I assume that "keep the account active" means "keep paying money". I will never go cloud-based for password storage, and I will never go subscription-based for password management. Never.
With 5.5 billion computers and smartphones on earth, I sure wish you guys focused on new customer revenue rather than milking existing customers. Your business strategy has turned me from an enthusiastic recommendation to "steer clear". From love to dislike. I hope that's registering with you all.
As ~50% of the the app store's 1848 ratings for 1P v7 are 1-star, I'm certainly not going to jump off that cliff. I mean, how much blind bias does it take to convince yourself that all those customers have been treated properly?
So here I am, anticipating the inevitable obsolescence of 1P v6, wondering which competitor I'll move to, and how hard that migration will be.
It was great while it lasted, but you can subtract my good will from your balance sheet. That's the net result of "taking the time to joins us here in the forum". Sheesh.

Thanks for continuing to share your thoughts and feelings here @stevefal .

We've built our membership service around the good old 1Password apps and created an entire ecosystem and a full solution for all of your passwords needs. Our cloud service is a big part of that equation and it allows for, among other things, 24/7 backup and sync across all devices without the need for a 3rd party service provider, which is a big deal for a lot of customers who had troubles with other syncing services and wanted a single button setup.
If your concerns are more security-oriented, I'll be more than happy to elaborate and explain on our security protocols and methods, and how we keep your data inaccessible to anyone (including us) but you. There's a lot more to it and our membership service is a lot more commonly picked than you'd imagine. I do hope you'll sign up for the 14 days free trial and experience it first hand before you make up your mind.
I hope you'll find the following links useful:
- About our membership service: https://support.1password.com/explore/membership
- What's new in 1Password 7: https://support.1password.com/explore/whats-new-mac
- About our security policy and protocols: https://support.1password.com/1password-security/
If you have specific questions about any of the above, I'll be happy to answer and provide additional info.

I am trying the 1Password 7 trial, and I like some of the enhancements from V6. However, one thing I notice right away is a delay between clicking the menubar or browser extension button and the appearance of the UI. In version 6 this interaction was virtually instantaneous. Whereas before, it was 'click..click' to log in, now it's 'click..beat..click' I'm running an 8-core Mac Pro dual D700, so no problem there.
Is there any solution or way to improve this drawing speed?
Also, notice that when I pin the pop-up and then activate another window, this layout error in the upper left corner:

Hey @stevefal ,
I'm glad to hear you're giving 1Password 7 a try!Do you happen to use Touch ID when you unlock 1Password? There's currently a known issue with Touch ID unlock that causes some delay when calling 1Password mini, so hopefully that will be resolved in the next couple of updates.
As for the graphical glitch in your screenshot, our developers are already aware of that but I will add your report to the glitch's report.

There's no Touch ID on my Mac Pro.
After trying 1P7, I'm disappointed. The decision to expose more information at the top level has resulted in a slower, less streamlined process of filling information, which is the primary task. Count the time and clicks required to fill a password or credit card form. 1P6's flatter hierarchy and fly-outs are so much cleaner and faster.
1P7's mini customization neglects what matters. "Menu" is a dropdown in the mini. What about the mini itself? These settings are a slap in the face:
I am now in a position to pay more for an inferior experience, just so that I can upgrade my OS and continue using your solution. I won't do it. I would't take 1P7 for free.
Please test and bug-fix 1P6 for compatibility with the latest OSes, or port the classic experience as an option in 1P7. Today I start looking for an alternative product to run under Big Sur.

Hey @stevefal ,
Autofilling in 1Password 7 is as simple as pressing a hotkey (CMD+), so I'm not quite sure what you are referring to here.
If you call mini, it will open to "Suggestions", which means it will suggest logins based on the current website you are visiting. Any logins that match the URL of the website you are visiting will be suggested. If you wish, you can change mini's settings like in your screenshot so that it will open to "All items", which will show all of your logins and passwords ordered alphabetically. If that is not what you meant, please elaborate and demonstrate what is worse than 1Password 6 here.
This might also help in case you missed some options/features: https://support.1password.com/1password-mini-mac/As for the responsiveness of mini, I'm sure we can improve things by looking at your setup and figuring out what might be causing the slight delay when you call mini. If you'd like to troubleshoot this, you can send us a diagnostics report and we'll do what we can to help: https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/
1Password 6 is a legacy version that has not been updated or maintained in years, and will remain so. One of the best benefits of our membership service is that you will get free upgrades for as long as you are a member, and won't be bound to a single version like with a standalone license. I know updates and changes are often perceived as annoying and unwanted by users when it comes to software that is used daily, but I assure you it is a matter of habit, and habits are hard to break/change.
I do appreciate you taking the time and sharing this feedback here, it means a lot. We will do whatever we can to help you with any and all issues, if you'll let us.
