I’ve been using 1Password for years now but never set it up correctly, is there a how to link?

I currently use 1Password like a notepad (an expensive notepad) but would like to use it the way it is intended. I access the app on an iPhone, iPad, MacBook and on occasion via the internet to retrieve my passwords. Is there a how to setup the app correctly? I have dozens of critical passwords to maintain and can’t afford to lose anything so I need to get it right the first time around.
Thanks to anyone that can point me in the right direction.
