i have a MacBook Pro 2015, Big Sur 11.1, 16GB memory, and really liked how 1Password worked on Catalina last week prior to update to Big Sur!!

Hi @macthecaptain!
What version of the 1Password for Mac app are you currently using?

I have this issue pretty frequently. Clicking on the icon in the menu bar does nothing. The workaround is to open the main app window at least once. After that mini works again.
v7.7

Happened to me on Big Sur 11.0 and 11.1.

Fixed Need to exit 1password completely by clicking icon top right on Mac and then will install.
I'm on 11.2 but cannot update to 7.7 as it tells me to close 1password but its not open? it then opens 1password and asks me to log in but when I do nothing happens, any idea how to update to 7.7?

The big icon at bottom of screen 1Password will open after startup of MacBook Pro. Then the mini at top will open once for the master pass word . Then clicking on the mini gets nothing. I can use the large icon to get password info, but the open and fill does not work either. It is really acting as a reference location not as an action to fill in user or password. Very frustrating. It looks like Safari has it with the extension properly too. Help......

Like macthecaptain, I too, upgraded to Big Sur within the last couple weeks and thats when I started to have 1Password 7.7 problems. I'm running Big Sir 11.1. In Safari, when I click on a password username field it shows the 1Password icon and says to Unlock 1Password, clicking the "unlock" it does nothing. I noticed that the 1Password app I had installed was from the App Store, i downloaded the 7.7 installer and installed over top. I thought that would solve the issue. It didn't work.

I decided to install 7.7.1 Beta 6 and it seems whatever fixes are included in that release solved my problem in the Safari browser.

Have you given1Password a complete quit? Please try these steps and let me know how it goes.
- Look for our helper in the menu bar near the WiFi indicator and the clock. Right-click on the helper and select quit 1Password completely. Wait a few seconds and then open 1Password from the Dock or the Applications folder.

Thanks for the try, Tommy. No help. I have been trying for 4 days to get this going. I have a license, and it shows on my other MacBook pro, but not this one. When I have put in my vault password and the mini is in the top menu, use Safari to call up a site that requires a password, the 1Password icon is in the User row, but the mini when clicked does nothing. Nor does the icon in the User row. What can I try next? Help, please. A couple of time the 1Password sales dialogue comes up, as if I don't have it installed already.

Are you using the Mac App Store version of 1Password? If so, that version does not support our licenses. You'll need to switch to the website version to use a license.

And how would I discover which I have? I do not recall. I remember going thru this last op sys change, but not specifically.

The first few steps in the link below will show you how to determine the version you have installed.

Ok I looked at the 'About 1Password' and it said 'from the app store' I then found an old email from Agilebits that helped me download it. About 1Password says "1Password Store" I still can't get the mini 1Password icon in the top window to do anything. When I call up a secure website in the user field there is a 1Password icon with a lock symbol on it. My 1Password is unlocked. Now what?

Next, if 1Password is unlocked try refreshing the page. In the past there have been a few known occurrences where the inline menu did not know 1Password was unlocked. The refresh will resolve that.

Aaarg! I restarted the MacBook and now things seem to be working again as prior to update to Big Sur. Wow, what a frustrating hassle. I have been thru this before per my saved emails. I know that I had the correct 1Password Store copy from last op sys upgrade fiasco. I can only think the version, web vs app store, must have changed by the upgrade. Is it possible to have two copies of 1Password on this computer and it switches when upgrades happen? Thanks for help.

I have seen the user caught in an update struggle between the two stores. It sounds like that may have happened to you too. This step used to help me in the past. I have not tried it in some time now. You might give it a try and see how you fare.

Tommy Turns out there are 2 1Passwords located in App Store purchases. One from 2016, and one from Sep 2020. I don't know how that occurred, maybe as a requested update or some such? Anyway, problem solved til next upgrade op sys. Hope I can remember the process to "unscrew" (to use a cmd from long ago) this situation.... Thanks for your help. Whew.....
